Career Coach and Certified Professional Résumé Writer Mindy Thomas launches Thomas Career Consulting, LLC, offering résumé writing and career counseling. Thomas, a former career counselor for 15 years, returned to career services and became an entrepreneur after being laid off as a legal recruiter.

Mindy Thomas, MS, CPRW, a professionally trained career counselor, has launched a new career services consulting company, Thomas Career Consulting, LLC. After being laid off on from her job as a legal recruiter on January 26, 2009, the largest layoff day in modern American history, she decided to invest her time and effort in her own business providing career counseling and résumé writing services.

Over 100,000 people lost their jobs that day and, in February 2009, another 650,000 people lost their positions. With unemployment reaching an all-time high of 8.5% and many believing it to be much higher, job seekers are scrambling to compete in a big game of musical chairs, where fewer and fewer jobs are available. The unemployment rate has reached its highest level in a quarter-century after 732,000 jobs were lost in May, the 17th consecutive month of job losses. Since then, résumé writing services, career counseling and outplacement services are more critical than ever.

“Résumé writing is an art and skill that most people don’t have,” Thomas said. “After spending over a year as a recruiter in the legal profession, it became painfully obvious that even attorneys can’t put together a well-written, succinct résumé. Mindy Thomas has dedicated her career assisting in the professional development of students and adults for over fifteen years. She has worked extensively at both two-year and four-year colleges, combining her business background with a solid foundation of career counseling and sales-training skills. Mindy specializes in career exploration, self-assessment, résumé writing, and career coaching, in addition to, conducting Myers Briggs and other career related workshops.
