You are probably wondering how the résumé writing process works and what is involved. First, I would like to tell you what is not involved. There are no teams of writers at my office doing the résumé writing. I work alone, and I will become immersed in you and your career for a short period of time while we collaborate on remaking your image to compete in a tough job market.
I will not send you 10 pages of comprehensive worksheets for you to fill out. Rather, I will conduct a personalized interview via telephone or, if you are in my local area, meet you to discuss your employment background. I will gather all the necessary work history in order to get a complete understanding of where you have been and where you want to go. It’s important to know what kind of position and what industry you are going after, so that I can tailor this résumé or create multiple résumés for your specific needs.
Next, I will decide what kind of résumé best represents you. What I mean is there are various types of résumé formats including chronological, functional and hybrid formats. And, that’s important to determine. While I may take some time to interview you, I will spend even more time into strategically thinking through how to best represent you.
Will You Be Involved from Beginning to End?
Yes, you will have direct contact with me throughout the résumé writing process, and I will work with you until you have your final draft that you are satisfied with. What’s very beneficial for you is that you will be collaborating with not only a very experienced résumé writer but a committed career counselor who may even suggest options, if you are open, along the way.
